VOLUNTEERING
DIDSBURY GOOD NEIGHBOURS PROVIDES
OPPORTUNITIES FOR LOCAL PEOPLE TO VOLUNTEER AND GET INVOLVED.
We firmly believe that our volunteers benefit just as much as the people, they work to support. With a range of volunteering opportunities, there is a role to suit each volunteer’s availability, commitment and preference. No formal qualifications are needed. Training and support is provided.
WAYS YOU CAN VOLUNTEER
BEFRIENDING
Befriending is the core of our work, building friendships with people who are most at risk of loneliness and isolation. This role requires commitment, regularly visiting an individual at home and taking a genuine interest in their life and wellbeing. Befriending volunteers need to have time to dedicate and be comfortable in a role that requires reliability, listening skills and friendship.
SUPPORTING ACTIVITIES
Volunteers provide lifts to activities and are regular faces In our café and Neighbourhood Centre; they help out at all activities, providing vital assistance and friendship to all. This opportunity is a great way for those available during the week
to be part of the operation of the charity and the volunteering team.
AS AND WHEN
The as & when volunteer does exactly what it says on the tin: providing the opportunity for individuals to be involved on a more occasional basis, without a regular weekly commitment Yet still providing vital and much appreciated help to Didsbury’s senior generation. Roles vary from fundraising, driving and emergency shoppers to gardeners and simple diy’ers, along With opportunities.
All befriending volunteers require references, a police check and undertake an induction training programme. Throughout their time as a befriender volunteers receive regular support and on-going training from the Didsbury Good Neighbours’ Volunteer Co-ordinator. If you'd like to become a volunteer please download our volunteer application form and email it to us at volunteer@didsburygoodneighbours.org.uk or post it to Didsbury Good Neighbours, Didsbury Park, Gillbrook Road, Manchester M20 6WH or pop in to talk to us at Didsbury Neighbourhood Centre or The Pavilion Cafe in Didsbury Park.
